The card room

Six tables and four dives a night

Racks overhead, a lamp on every table, a surface interval every fifty minutes, and nothing whatsoever riding on the cards.

How the floor works

Seats, chips and surface intervals

Chips and a score pad at the end of a dive

Four tables are open all evening — sit down at a free chair or ask the floor and they will place you. Two are kept back for groups who ring ahead.

Every table has house decks, a score pad and a crate of chips. The crate is counted back at close and the pad is torn off and binned.

The floor will teach a game, deal a demonstration hand or make up a fourth. They do not referee and they do not take a cut, because there is nothing to take a cut of.

The games

Five hundred, euchre, canasta and social poker, all for points.

First dive

Tuesday and Thursday 6pm, half an hour, free, six seats.

Surface intervals

Ten minutes between dives, decks cut fresh.

At the table

Four things the felt asks of you

  1. Six to a table, four in the beginner session, and the floor may reseat you to even things out.
  2. House decks only — the cards live here and stay here.
  3. Chips stay on the table when you go for a drink; they are not yours to carry off.
  4. If you are sitting out a dive, tell the floor so your seat can be used.
